This book was written by an historian, and has a wonderful history of Mountmellick embroidery. The author collected together designs found on old Mountmellick pieces from across Ireland. The designs are presented as line drawings for the embroiderer to interpret into stitch. Some photos of historical works are included.

This book is a re-publication of Weldon's Practical Mountmellick booklets (c. 1890) and the Priscilla instructions (1904). These were written for a Victorian audience, and it was at about this stage that Mountmellick patterns became less natural in their drafting and more stylised.
