IMPORTANT: Passing on your precious embroidery/lace or books?

Since receiving my OAM, I have been contacted by many people hoping to find a good home for embroidery, lace, and needlework books. I am genuinely touched that you thought of me.

I need to be honest with you: I am a working researcher and teacher with limited space and time, and I am not in a position to accept most donations. My research focuses specifically on historical whitework and openwork embroidery traditions, so items outside that scope are unlikely to be of use to me, however much they may be loved.

If you have something you think might fall within my area, you are welcome to email me at [address] with:

  • For embroideries or lace: clear photographs, including any labels, inscriptions, or packaging
  • For books: the title, author, and publication date of each item

Please do not telephone me about this. I can only respond to emails, and only if I think I may be able to help. If you do not hear back from me, I would encourage you to contact your local museum or library, or the Embroiderers' Guild or Lace Guild in your state or territory.

Thank you for wanting these things to be cared for.
