KIT DETAILS | PURCHASE
The Mountmellick lily runner is a large runner that features sprays of lilies with flowers and buds. It has a concave scalloped edge with traditional knitted fringe that frames the embroidery.
It is often said that the plants that were used in historical Mountmellick designs were those that grew along the banks of the River Owenass, running through the town of Mountmellick. Lilies historically were a common motif, but there is little chance that they would have grown naturally in the climate there. So at this point we must just assume that they were grown in greenhouses, but were much loved, so therefore incorporated into the designs.
