Most people agree that daylight lighting is the best lighting for embroidery, as it keeps colours true. The daylight colour comes from using globes with a certain temperature, usually around 6400K.
You can see from the photos on the right, the difference between a daylight globe (top) and a normal incandescent globe (bottom). The incandescent is much yellower. A regular fluorescent globe would be greener. Daylight globes have no colour cast, and therefore keep your threads and fabrics true to the colour that you would see them if you were outside in the daylight.
We stock daylight compact fluorescent (CFL) globes for use in most lamps. Many people think you need to purchase a special lamp with the daylight globe in it. But you don't! You can simply put a daylight globe into the lamp you already own. You don't need a special lamp - just the special globe!
Screw cap globes are used in lamps with screw fittings. If you're not sure what type of fitting your lamp has, take out the existing globe. If you have to unscrew it and the globe clearly has a screw thread around the base, then it is a screw fitting. If it doesn't, you'll need a bayonet cap globe.

Incandescent globes make the fabric and thread look yellower than they really are. This can make colour-matching and choosing the right colour very difficult.
