This Mountmellick Blackberry doily features blackberry leaves, fruit and a flower.
Blackberries are one of my favourite Mountmellick motifs as they look so good you could eat them (ah, except that they're made of thread!). The fruit are made by massing together french knots of varying heights, which gives them a wonderful three dimensional effect.
The scalloped edge is typical of historical Mountmellick embroidery.
